Our history

Brink's was founded in 1859. In 160 years since our foundation, a lot has changed. What has remained is our passion. We feel responsible for performing a meaningful task: ensuring that people around the world can pay securely. Thanks to our rich experience, we are still developing solutions with our partners to continue paying securely.

1859–1919
Founded in 1859 by Perry and Fidelia Brink in Chicago, Illinois, under the name "Perry Brink's Chicago City Express," the company used a variety of names in the 19th century. Carriages in those times were marked with "Brink's," but other names such as "Brink's Ex.," "Brink's C.C. Ex. Co.," "Brink's CC Express Co.," etc., were also used.

1919–1934
The company's first stock was sold in 1879 under the name "Brink's Express Company," but the simpler name was not widely used until 1919 when the first Brink's branch outside of Chicago was opened in Cleveland, Ohio. The shield logo of Brink's Express Company, often cast in metal and affixed to the side of armored trucks, symbolized the durability and security of the company's operations.

1934–1962
In 1934, the company officially changed its name to Brink’s Incorporated.

1962–present
In 1962, Brink's Incorporated was acquired by the Pittston Group, a conglomerate in the transportation and mining industry. In the early 2000s, the group sold its mining operations and changed its name to "The Brink’s Company."

The Brink's Company has been present in Romania since 2020 when it acquired the operations of G4S as part of a global transaction. G4S, a British group, had been active in the Romanian market since 2002.
